TELEFUNKEN WITH DJ Q (FILTER, SOMA, DANCEMANIA)
29TH JUNE 2007 @
CELLAR BAR
Telefunken welcome house production legend DJ Q for a night of quality underground house.
Pre-club @ Baraka from 9pm
DJ Q has never been one to follow the crowd. He cut his first record back in the mid nineties with fellow Glaswegian "Blueboy" Gemini, the imprint stood out a mile. Its combination of dirty, filtered disco and raw, jacking loops sparked a bit of a DJ frenzy.
Internationally renowned spinners like Carl Craig, DJ Pierre, Farley & Heller and Masters at Work had DJ Q's grooves on heavy rotation. Filter's A&R Ross Allen snapped him up. What then followed was one of those records that define a sound. Q's cut 'We Are One' achieved plays from a huge range of DJs. From Andy Weatherall to Angel Moraes, Roger Sanchez to Derrick May, the Technics glitterati were united in their support of Paul (Fun Boy) Flynn's emotion-soaked masterpiece.
Alongside DJ Sneak, Cajmere, Derrick Carter and a bunch of other crazed Chi-town producers DJ Q was reworking the Seventies with Nineties technology and everyone was tuning in. His first album ('Face the Music') followed in August 1997. The fact that it was hailed as one of the albums of the year pleased Flynn. Requests from clubs all over the world meant that he could exchange the daily grind for frequent flyer points. And from Zouk in Singapore to Skansen in Oslo, the Rex in Paris to Marques Wyatt's Deep in LA Flynn delivered his own brand of high-octane funk to enraptured audiences. A further album for Filter ('Face the Music', notching up over 25,000 sales) and remixes for the likes of Lil' Louis, Scott Grooves, Isolee and Slam confirmed DJ Q as one of house music's heavyweight producers while full tours of the US, Canada and Oceania established his reputation as a floor-filler that won't let you down.
