A fine mix of hip hop, acid, jazz and fun lovin' crazy house!
'I've been spinning professionally for seven years, but I've been listening to house music and going to clubs most of my life,' explains the infamous Miss Honey Dijon, suddenly one of the most in-demand DJs on the planet. But she's only done a handful of remixes (for Derrick Carter's Classic label and Music For Freaks), so what's all the hype about?
It must have something to do with her infectious DJ sets, which fuse 'everything from hip-hop to acid to straight-up new wave to jackin' house.' It's a Chicago house sound with hints of deep New York underground. 'Hopefully, the crowd will experience a new way of hearing how house music is played and presented,' Dijon contends. 'I think a lot of what's out there has become too commercial, so a sense of eclecticism has been lost. I try to keep that eclecticism alive.'
Dijon is originally from Chicago where she was inspired by the revered house sounds of Derrick Carter, Mark Farina and Frankie Knuckles. In the mid-'90s, she moved to the Big Apple. 'New York used to be a place where if you were different, you were nurtured and celebrated. Now it's becoming more like the Midwest. You can never escape where you come from.'
