DERRICK MAY – Hi-Tek-Soul, Transmat, Detroit
Derrick May the innovator, Derrick May the genius, whichever way you look at it, along with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, ‘Mayday’ is responsible for kicking off the Detroit techno scene. As Rhythim is Rhythim he has given us some of dance music’s finest moments including ‘Nude Photo’, ‘The Dance’ and probably one of house’s all time greats ‘Strings of Life’. As a DJ he has wowed crowds worldwide with his sublime mix of house, techno, electronic funk and anything else that he wants to throw into the mix. His legendary labels Transmat & Fragile have given us music from such stars as Carl Craig, Joey Beltram & Suburban Knight. His influences (and personal friends) include Yellow, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. Giving back something to his home town, in 2003 he took over the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, renamed it Movement and it is now one of the most important dates on dance music’s calendar. This is Derrick May and he is at Bottom Heavy………………………………!
