Sadly, the Sussex Arts Club, Brighton's legendary Grade II listed Georgian
building has been SOLD and is due to close down FOREVER (as a venue!) on
SATURDAY 15th SEPTEMBER. The VERY LAST EVENT EVER! @ THE SUSSEX ARTS CLUB
EVER! on SATURDAY 15th SEPTEMBER is long-running 60s girl pop institution DA
DOO RON RON (Est. October 1998), who have been based at the SAC for the last
5 years.
DJ and founder Chris 'Da Doo' King & regular long-term DJ compadre Simon
Bridger (Brighton northern soul all-dayers) spin sparkly SIXTIES GIRL POP
ACTION from The Supremes, Brigitte Bardot, Dusty Springfield, Nina Simone,
Nancy Sinatra, Aretha, Petula Clark, Shirley Bassey, The Ronettes, Dionne
Warwick, Lulu, Chiffons, Shangri-Las, Etta James et al embracing Motown,
French ye-ye / swingin' Mademoiselles, girls in the garage, Northern soul,
Sister funk, pop et al
Established all the way back in October 1998 (in North London), Da Doo Ron
Ron is a 60s orientated club night with a unique slant. In a tribute to
original 'girl power', DDRR DJs Chris 'Da Doo' King & Simon Bridger only
spin female-fronted tracks from the swingin' sixties and (very ccasionally)
early seventies.
